EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
- Weekly value is one-timeframing lower for a second week; four sessions of rising daily value just got wiped out.
- Yesterday closed strong near its high, but today gapped down 225 points and the Initial Balance broke lower before any bounce could hold.
- Line in the sand: the nine-day balance’s own low near 23,116 — almost exactly where price sits now.
MACRO CONTEXT
Backdrop stays modestly bearish — a death cross in the averages, mixed VWAP stack, weekly auction one-timeframing lower for a second week. Daily value had been climbing inside that downtrend; today erased it, price now under this week’s value area and in the lower half of an 800-plus-day macro balance.
MIDDAY ASSESSMENT:
The morning’s failed test-and-drive open resolved into a short-covering bounce that stalled and rolled over. Price broke the Initial Balance low, pushed through two mid-September buying-tail zones, and is testing the lowest of them, just above the nine-day balance’s own floor.
SCENARIO UPDATE:
The breakdown-short thesis is CONFIRMED — price traded within 15 points of target; retiring as matured. The IB-low-reclaim long alternative is INVALIDATED — price never got close.
AFTERNOON EXPECTATION:
Options aren’t pricing this as done: straddle decay is modest and implied vol rose since yesterday’s close even as price fell — a fear signature. Rotations have run compressed versus vol, favoring continuation toward the balance low and, on a failure, the options floor near 23,000.
ACTIVE LEVELS:
– 23,205 (broken IB low): overhead resistance on bounces
– 23,178-23,116 (buying-tail zone / balance low): being tested now
– 23,000 (options floor): next magnet below the balance low
RISK NOTE:
The developing profile still reads concentrated in the upper half of today’s range — a lag between structure and price, not a reason to fight the breakdown.
